Morse Historic Site Postcard:

This is a color postcard with an image of the Locust Grove Morse Historic Site overlooking the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, NY. I bought this card when I visited this historic house.

I also purchased this envelope with its commemorative post mark when I visited the Morse Historic Site.  It commemorates the 150th Anniversary of Morse Code.

This deck of 66 cards + 4 additional cards of instructions for use was manufactured and distributed by the Sunset Press. The instruction cards refer to changes in Maritime law and such being effective in the 1940's. The cards show: International Code Flags, Navy Numeral Flags, Morse Code Equivalents of words and numbers, Phonetic Alphabet used by the Army and Navy (as adopted in 1943), Distress Signals and Signals for the Control of Merchant Vessels.

AETNA Hartford Telegraph Return Token Fob:

A fob that was worn with instructions on where to telegraph in case of an insurance claim or identification question. The Fob says:" I Am Insured Against Accidents In The Aetna Life Hartford Conn. / Telegraph This Number 217112 AETNA Life Ins. Co. Accident Dept. Hartford, Conn. For Identification Of person Upon Whom This Set of Keys Are Found Or For Owners Name If Lost."

Western Union Telegrapher's Pin:

A small brass metal pin, about 3/8 of an inch wide, given to employees to acknowledge 20 years of service with the Western Union Company.

Telegrapher's Pin:

This is a 3/4" celluloid lapel stud or pin with a drawing of telegraph sounder with laurel leaves around on the front. The back is stamped Steiner St. Louis. They made pin back buttons and similar items from around 1905 until 1937 . The seller dates this pin as c1905.

First Day of Issue Centenary of the Telegraph Envelope and Stamp:

A First Day of Issue Cancelled United States Post Office Stamp and envelope. addressed to Mr. Floyd Gersdorf, Marshalltown, Iowa. Postmarked in Baltimore May 24, 1944, the day of issuance.  Gift to the collection from Ron Gagliardi.
